Despite the fact that Augsburg – by the way, the third largest city of Bavaria – has an incredibly rich history, it remains somewhat in the shadow of its southeastern neighbour and the Bavarian capital – Munich.

However, Augsburg is, right after Trier, the second oldest city in Germany. Unfortunately, many historic buildings were burnt to the ground during a devastating bomb attack in February 1944, but, as in many other parts of former West Germany, the city spent a lot of money on their complete reconstruction. And so we can admire them in their full beauty now.

The most popular events include wine and gourmet festivals, Ancient festivities, the Roman festival, Bread and games, and, last but not least, the Christmas markets. Nowhere else in Germany can you find such a concentration of Roman monuments.
